Redfield has long been known as the "Pheasant Capital of the World" because it was just northeast of Redfield that the Chinese Ringneck Pheasant was first successfully released in South Dakota back in 1908.

RECREATION
On the west side of Redfield is Redfield Lake located on Turtle Creek. Six miles south of Redfield is Mud Lake, one of the best fishing spots in the region. Eight miles east of Redfield is beautiful Fisher Grove State Park located on the James River and right next door to the Fisher Grove Country Club where there is nine holes of excellent golf.
Redfield also has an outdoor municipal swimming pool with a 103' water slide and a wading pool. In the summer, the City sponsors numerous recreation programs including swimming, golf, tennis, archery and bowling lessons as well as adult and youth softball, baseball, T-ball, soccer, track and field, game times for youth from 4 to 12 years of age, and youth field trips. There are 2 youth softball fields, 1 adult softball field, and 1 adult baseball field.
